Hello
Have had a client who gave birth june 98 and never got more than drops of
milk. Good positioning, latch, frequent feeding, pumping, herbs, reglan,
used supply line at breast. Breasts are the classic tubular shape. Never
experienced any breast changes. Her sister gave birth weeks later, breasts
appear normal, but no milk either. They report mother and aunt bf fine. Her
MD ruled out thyroid and retained placenta.
The first mother is expecting #2 sep 99. Called to ask if there is anything
that could be done prenatally or immed. postpartum to facilitate milk
production.
I believe this is "insufficient glandular tissue" - however would you
recommend that she have an endocrine evaluation? Is there anything I can
suggest for prenatal or p.p. treatments other than the usual good management
of bf and watch closely, be prepared to supplement.? Mother is prepared for
this. I did tell her that each preg and lactation is different - offering
hope.
