I have just seen the post re prems and dummies. We had a baby born at
28 weeks (he was on a ventilator and developed hydrocephalus) He went to
theatre 7 times during the space of 4 months for blocked shunts.
His Mum refused to give him a dummy and all feeds were by n/g tube He was
in ICU for 3 months. Mum was expressing during this time. After he was
discharged from ICU he came to Maternity Ward (at the request of the
Paediatrician) His Mum was desperate to nurse him (she was such a
wonderful caring Mum) - we put him to the breast and he took it like a
professional! Went home at 4 months. Needless to say she was abso-
lutely delighted. Baby Matthew and family had had a very tough time but
this joy - for him and Mum - had more than made up for it. Sight 100% too.
