To Aussie lactnetters!
I just became aware of an infantr formula manufacturer doing some blatant advertising. It is definitely worth complaining to APMAIF and to the health minister about this

This is the story
Go to
http://www.ninemonths.com.au/bulletinboard/bulletinboard_ans.asp?que_id=pixi6&category=
See the banner ad up the top "Put feeding problems to bed"
Click on there....it takes you to http://www.infanurture.com.au/

Now this has the usual damning breastfeeding with faint praise but then click on "Common feeding problems"...it takes you to http://www.infanurture.com.au/common-feeding-problems.asp

Problems include Colic, Constipation, Diarrhoea, Hungry and Sleepless, Reflux

Click on any of these and it will talk about the problem and then have something down the bottom about finding a special formula that will help with that problem
Here's the hungry and sleepless http://www.infanurture.com.au/common-feeding-problems/hungry.asp How can I help my baby sleep longer?
There are various settling techniques that can be used to encourage sleep. Your early childhood nurse can advise you or refer you to a specialised organisation. Some things you may want to try include a warm bath before bedtime, followed by a gentle massage or soft music in the baby's room. If you are bottle feeding, changing your baby's formula to a specialist infant formula designed for hungry babies can help your baby feel satisfied for longer, without the risk of overfeeding. Ask your healthcare professional or pharmacist for advice.

Look to the right of the page, there is something that says "Is there something that can help with infant feeding problems" Click there, that takes you to http://www.novalac.com.au/
who say
"We have a formula for nearly every feeding problem
Novalac is a range of special infant formulas which feed, while helping prevent, common infant feeding problems." The problems, you guessed it! Colic, Constipation, Diarrhoea, Hungry and Sleepless, Reflux. They say
"Find out more about the medical benefits of Novalac and how the formulas work to help prevent infant feeding problems."

Click on the right and that says "What conditions can Novolac help with?" and that takes you to the formula and all sorts of lovely info.

These ads are particularly noxious because they prey on parent's concerns about their babies. It's just disgusting! and oh so blatant!

This formula manufacturer is working very hard to gain market share for their product. They are not allowed to advertise like this in Australia! but they'll keep doing it if they are not called on it, only waythat can happen is if people complain!
