Hi Rachel,

I did a search on Dr. Thomas Hale's website and found the following response
to a similar question. I hope you find it helpful.

Kathy

A mother has been told by her MD that she must stop breastfeeding her
14-month-old child because she has been prescribed Ketek (telithromycin) 400 mg 3
times a day. I can't find any info about Ketek, can anyone help?

Telithromycin (Ketek) is just another macrolide-like antibiotic similar to
azithromycin. It is a new class of antibiotic with better activity against
multidrug-resistant gram-positive bacteria and Haemophilus influenzae.

This whole family is quite safe to use in infants and breastfeeding mothers
as long as its a few weeks postpartum. With a 14 month old infant, there
should be no problem using this one at all. We use Zithromax all the time in young
 children.
