Kathy,

This happened to me after my first child was born. I know with me it was
from lack of sleep. The problem ended when I brought my baby into bed
with me and started getting more sleep. I also think it was because, like
you said, adjusting to a new life. It never happened after my other
births.

The worst night was when I was staying at my mom's house. It was about
1:00am and my brother was just coming in from a night out. The noise woke
me up. I walked into the kitchen where he was, said hello to him, and
started to pat an immaginary baby on my shoulder! Then I asked him if he
could watch my daughter there on the table (where I had her changing
stuff set up) while I went to the bathroom. I even told him to be careful
that she doesn't roll off! I started to "come to" while in the bathroom,
and when I came out, I checked in the port-a-crib and she was asleep in
there! I went back into the kitchen, and looked at my brother and said,
"She wasn't here, was she?" He gently rubbed my back, then walked me back
to bed. I will never forget that night!

I hope things get better for this mom, and I hope she gets some sleep.
