Greetings,
I have a patient who had a mastitis on one breast after BF her last
baby. It went undiagnosed and became so severe that she had to have
extensive surgery and was told that milk ducts were removed and the
anatomy of the breast has grossly changed. The patient is nervous about
feeding on that breast and is wondering if she should try to feed only on
the
unaffected side, or if she should try both breasts. She is one day PP and
has fed only one time on the affected side, ad lib on the other, and reports
some pain in the damaged breast.
She also said that she produced copious amounts of milk with her last baby
Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.
Many Thanks,
Joan Greenberg
