"We manage, we mop up, hopefully we prevent. We support, we research, we
advocate. We know how to be part of a health care team which insures that
mother and baby are best protected and breastfeeding is preserved. We do
not practice medicine."
Barbara Wilson-Clay, BS, IBCLC

Barbara. I don't think I have ever read such a perfect description of the
role of a lactation consultant! May I use this quote elsewhere? I also
think your care of the mom with bilateral mastitis sounds excellent. How
fortunate you are to have a situation where specialists, expecially ones you
trust, are accessable. So often those of us in small communities end up
struggling beside family practitioners trying to puzzle things out together
to the best of our combined abilities while we try to arrange access to
centres hours away with specialists none of us know.
