Dear all:

I think the real problem with the increasing conflicts of interest from my dentist complaining about
how she doesn't trust the research she reads anymore because of corporate influences to dealing
with the fact that the major source of funding for research on infant nutrition is the formula industry
is that the pools of public money for research have been dramatically eroding over the last 20 years.
If one feels that "healthily fed babies" is an important issue and that the influences of marketing
tactics have been corrupting on the advice given by health care practitioners (ourselves included)
then one should consider lobbying for greater public funding for independent research and for public
health promotion campaigns. It is only when there is adequate indepedent funding for both that the
temptation to say "well, but if I take this money from xxx source, I know I won't be influenced and
how can I do zzz if I don't have the money" will be reduced.

Best regards, Susan
