Karen: Interesting comments. I have to say that probably the #1 most
important asset of an LC is a good sense of humor. I always find that
parents who are still laughing in the face of the overwhelming
problems of having a newborn usually cope the best. I remember a home
consultation on a 90+ degree afternoon for a baby who was adamant
about not latching on. After about 30 minutes of working, the parents
were getting frustrated, the baby was indignant at the whole process
and I had sweat dripping off the end of my nose. I looked up and said
"do the words bottle feeding sound good to any one else right now?"
We all had a good laugh, relaxed and got down to the business at hand.
Another mom who feel in love with the side-lying position didn't
want to try any others. The husband was concerned that maybe she
should have me show her something else. What about when they went out?
She told him that T--- "R" U- was a baby-friendly store and they
could just announce "lady down in aisle 6!!" My point is that without
humor life is pretty boring. The chatting and miscellaneous topics on
Lactnet is necessary for most of us. A lot of LC's don't have a
professional support group and we need this and each other. I
certainly hope this makes sense. Everyone - keep up the funny stories
and the chatting.

Linda
