Dear Friends:

As LC at a local hospital, I see how much industry garbage lives in the
nursery. Microfiber bags, bottles, teats, handouts.........at least they are out of
sight of families standing at the nursery window watching their baby.

This is a new tear-off from Similac Advance, made in March 2007.

"What you feed your baby is one of the most important decisions you'll make."
Then there are some bullet points touting the benefits of this product,
including this one "Provides 50% more calcium absorption than Enfamil for strong
bones."

On the back are directions for preparing the product, including this one:

"If your doctor advises you to boil the water used to prepare formula, be
sure to bring it to a rolling boil. Do not boil it more than once, as this can
increase the concentration of impurities."

Nice, huh? One should give one's baby just the right amount of impurities,
and not increase their concentration. Who writes this stuff? Who believes it and
takes it seriously? Who reads it?

Yet one more reason I will be proactive about educating healthcare
professionals about the risks of artificial feeding, a la James Akre. By the way, Mr
Akre just had an excellent letter published:
