Dear Lactnetters,

I will be helping my local health department to deal with patients from a
dental practice where proper infection prevention practices were apparently
not being followed for several years. It looks like I will be handling
phone calls or paperwork for testing for HIV, HBV, and HCV. The risk of
diseases actually having been transmitted is currently considered to be
low. I am hoping that there are no currently breastfeeding women getting
tested. If there are, what do I refer them to for information about
whether to wean or pump and dump at this point? Will they have already
been tested for all those diseases during their recent pregnancy? I am
hoping for protocols and/or insights about infection realities. Thanks!
