To tie two current threads together here - LAM is another one of those
things, like breastfeeding, that is, by its nature, antithetical to the
multinational powers-that-be. I think that's one of the reasons some doctors
(no offence, Jack, you know I don't consider you a "regular" doctor) don't
want to hear about LAM. Could you imagine the AMA or its parallel
organizations in other developed countries standing up and strongly
recommending LAM as "the optimal method" of contraception for the first 6
months postpartum?! I don't think so!

No significant money to be made from it (like breastfeeding). No "brand" to
establish loyalty to. Heaven forbid that they should "give" that kind of
power to women! And least of all, to poor women! With babies, no less...

You're right, Heather and Jack - those of us who organize in support of and
actively promote breastfeeding are a subversive, radical bunch! (only I'm
getting old, and typed "submersive" instead of "subversive", and for the
longest time couldn't figure out why it didn't have that good old radical
ring to it!...well, at least I can still laugh at myself!) Ancient
civilizations were much more open about acknowledging that basically men are
afraid of the life-giving power that women have, and that is one of the
reasons women had to be controlled. But now we're so "civilized" that that
rationale must be deeply buried, and so we've come up with all these
"reasons" why it's "dangerous" for women to nurse their babies and control
their own fertility.
