Hi Everyone,

I guess it's a good thing that I haven't lost my ability to be amazed at
things, but this one's got me.

Last summer I posted about a mom with major yeast problems. It took a
while and lots of references, but we managed to get everything cleared
up, including a secondary breast infection and unrelated eye surgery on
the baby. No problems since October. Til now.

Baby had bronchitis (now about a year old), antibiotics, ear infection,
antibiotics, mom had lots of chocolate for Valentines day, and they both
have the yeastie beasties again. Mom called me yesterday for some
ammunition for her sometimes reluctant doctors. Surprise: no problems
with the docs. The Ped. prescribed for baby, Family Practise doc
prescribed for mom: Diflucan for 2 weeks each. So far, so good.

The HMO won't allow the prescriptions.

Some desk jockey at the insurance company has decided that 2 weeks worth of
Diflucan is unnecessary. Can you believe it? I don't know what it will
take for the meds to be filled.....well, I take that back. It'll take
over $150 of mom's money to fill prescriptions that SHOULD be covered by
insurance. (those of you outside the US may be appropriatly appalled).
Needless to say, mom will have a hard time paying for these meds.

I don't actually know what the next step is. I know these things can be
appealed (sp?). I don't know how long that will take.

Rant: Why are medicines sooo expensive??????
Why are the insurance companies so powerful??????
Who the h--- do they think they are???????

Anyone out there with experience with these yo-yo's (not my first choice
of names)?

Thank you. And thanks for the opportunity to rant a bit.
