Andrea,

Some good insights into the obstacles that teens meet, both internal and
external when they are pregnant and considering breastfeeding. The study you
cited from Family perspectives was unfamiliar to me but was consistent with
other recently published data about afroamericans and breastfeeding - which
was not age specific. I do know that our teen clinic holds a b/f
support/information group twice a month and their attendance is 90%
afroamerican. Some are pregnant when they come. They talk about their
obstacles, issues about peers, family, school, boyfriends and so forth. The
rate and length of b/f has increased since the group began. Maybe we need to
make sure our offers of support come in packages that they moms find
inviting.  Good Work on your lit search.
