Katie: It's nice to see this woman prefers breastfeeding success to
scheduling. There's some hope here. She wants to see literature, so
let's give her some references. Here are a few I came up with:

De Carvalho M, et al. Effect of frequent breastfeeding on early milk
production and infant weight gain. Pediatrics 72(3):307-11, 1983.

Klaus M. The frequency of suckling: A neglected but essential ingredient
of breastfeeding. Obstetr Gyn Clinics of North America 14(3):623-3, 1987.

Slaven S, Harvey D. Unlimited suckling time improves breastfeeding. The
Lancet Feb 14:392-3. 1981.

Salariya EM, et al. Duration of breastfeeding after early initiation and
frequent feeding. Lancet Nov 1978:1141-3.

After she looks through these, please ask her to provide you with the
Ezzo's references for their schedule. I wonder if she can find even one
study to match the references above. Of course, we'll all be eagerly
waiting to see them if she does find any. Hope this helps, Alicia Dermer,
MD, IBCLC.
