Hi

I’m hoping someone can help me with this one……………..

A local doctor has contacted me about a woman who came to see her recently.
She complained of feeling faint every time she breastfed. The mother is in
her 30’s and her baby is 3 months old. Everything was going smoothly until 3
weeks ago when she began to feel faint at feeding times. The doctor has
checked the mother out, all blood results are normal(full blood count ,Iron
and thyroid) and her postural blood pressure is normal too. The doctor
thinks there is a lot of vagal stimulation with breastfeeding and thinks
this is an exaggerated vasovagal response. She has suggested extra fluids
and salt. I suggested lying down to feed and the symptoms are better when
Mum does this. I am wondering if anyone has come across this before and why
should it should just start happening.

Any suggestions?
