Hi All,
Canned replies...hmmm...surprising? Not. One thing to note, however -
there was a line, and I'll quote:

"Ross Pediatrics has purchased a quantity of the New Mother's Guide to
Breastfeeding to use in place of a
breastfeeding booklet they had previously developed and distributed."

Umm...could they be talking about a selection of BF information that was
canibilized (mho) from Kathleen Huggin's 'Nursing Mother's Companion' (that
we all love and respect) and talks mainly of BF problems?? If so, I was not
aware that Ross 'Pediatrics' had developed that book. Hmmm.... If not,
please forgive the error on my part.

Does the AAP really think that it is ethical to allow sales of this book to
a FORMULA (yes I am shouting!) company that has nothing to gain by moms
exclusively BF? Are they so naive as to believe that it will "Do No Harm"
to BF around the world. Is this another ploy by a company to make itself
look better than it actually is (ie cigarrette companies giving money to
help teens NOT start smoking - let them wait until they are 18 - then we'll
get them!...my sarcasm)? Doesn't the hypocratic oath "First do no harm"
come into place here? By allowing the sale of this book to a formula
company for distribution with their name and logo on them - they are
condoning the harming of the BF relationship, duration of BF, health of
babies, cost of health care, etc. I don't particularly care if it is a
'subtle' form of harm - it is harm and should not be tolerated. By allowing
Ross to freely distribute the book to Drs, hospitals, moms, etc. they are
condoning the use of ABM (for other than medical needs) thus undermining
their stance that breastfeeding is best and preferrable.

ugh. One more thing to be annoyed about this week. sigh.

Jaye
All my own opinions...
