I agree about skin-to-skin, biological nurturing and no nipple shield in the first three days.  Also, I would give mom the link to this article, which I think, was recently posted to Lactnet.

She may be more interested in hand expression than pumping in the first three days, especially if she reads the article and realizes what an impact this can have.
