Dear all,
I sent a message the other day regarding a mum that has been asked to wean
her 6 month old in preparation for knee surgery. (cadaver acl)
Orthopedic surgeon informed mother that prolactin acts like relaxin during
pregnancy and will affect the outcome of the surgery by loosening the
ligaments. He refuses to operate unless she weans. Mum is going to ask for
documentation and I cannot locate any information to back this up. I have
advised mother to ask a endocrinologist for info and suggested she do a phone
consult. Has anyone on this list EVER heard of this, is this really an action
of prolactin. She cannot be the first mother to undergo knee surgery. Let me
know if you have anything.

Best wishes, Elaine Robertson IBCLC
