If the baby and mother are not bothered by the thrush, there is no
need to treat.  This was the subject of some recent posts.  Babies are
not usually bothered by thrush, and if the mother has no pain, I do
not think that treatment is necessary.  Nevertheless, I would do one
treatment with gentian violet, perhaps to prevent later problems,
which don't necessarily happen.

However, I don't believe the doctor's reason is a valid one.  It is
true that you don't often see 8 month olds with thrush, unless they
have recently had antibiotics, but this does not mean they have
developed immunity by not being treated.  Treated or not treated they
still don't seem to have it often.
