According to James Duke, a well known and renownded herbalist, aloe vera
SHOULD NOT be taken during pregnancy and lactation. He does not say
why, except to say that the aloe plane contains anthtraquinones, which
are powerful laxatives. This mother should be informed also that the
anthraquinone family is very addictive.

taken form "The Green Pharmacy" by James Duke, PhD. (botany)
book published by Rodale Press, 1997, p. 143

Instead, have mom increase her fiber intake, and drink plenty of water.
Flax seed, ground, also makes a wonderful laxative, with the added
benefit of providing a good source of precursors to the omega-3 oils.
And, it is not addictive!
