Christine, don't be embarrassed -- take a bow!

I look forward to the day when "pro-bf" articles (and
how oh how could there be an anti-bf article???) do
not start out with the following:

"EDITOR’S NOTE: Breastfeeding is among the biggest
issues facing a new mother. Should I? Can I? Will I?
For how long?"

As the article points out, formula was once the
property of privileged women. In many ways
breastfeeding has become, and continues to be, the
property of privileged women when bullet point tips
suggest that mothers "try" to breastfeeding in the
first hour and "hire a lactation consultant" as a
matter of course. While the article does give good PR
for LLL, I would like to see more PR for the idea of
the 10th Step. IBCLCs are wonderful (& I think I'm
pretty wonderful myself!!) but if the media, mothers
and grandmothers, all of us in the verious facets of
lactation work truly spread the word about the 10th
Step as the FIRST!!! step, perhaps our work as IBCLCs
would rightly be take its place as specialized help --
not a typical stop on the mothering path.

Stepping off my soapbox to dash off in support of the
10th Step (momma support meeting this morning!),
