Melissa, Go back to making sure mother is doing really good handwashing and
cleaning and sterilizing of her pump parts. Three years ago, we had three
triplets all cultured positive in their stools for Salmonella. No other babies.
The docs cultured her milk, which was positive as well. I had to observe her
pumping after prepping her skin with Betadine, and using a sterile pumping kit
to make sure the organism wasn't really in her milk, but a contaminant. It
wasn't in the milk, but somehow the milk had gotten contaminated. Only her
milk that had been pumped at home was positive, but not in the hospital. When we
gave her a new kit and reinstructed in good technique, things were fine.
Always, we need to go back to proper technique in cleaning hands and equipment.
Just got a picture from their third birthday party. They look great!!
