Aloha,

Just wanted to give everyone an update. Some suggestions were to have dad
help out--I did think of it initially, but an inner instinct "said" not to
mention it to this family.

As you know the initial RPS that I helped mom with was very successful--thank
you Jean! She continued with it herself. I talked with her everyday. By
about day three, she had a lot of relief, but thrush had set in. By day 4
or 5, mom decided to dry up her milk. She was being treated for thrush, but
was still in pain--she also has 4 children at home and the baby was in the
Children's hospital which was 1 1/2 hours away. Mom was exhausted. At one
point, they were preparing for baby's death. I understood where she was coming
from and decided to support her with a very agonizing decision, rather than
push her with what I wanted her to do. She had pumped a lot of milk for the
baby in the meantime.

I gave her instructions for drying up her milk. I called her for the next
two days to see how things were going. I had family come in, so I told her to
call me for any help and to let me know how she was doing. Well, my family
is gone, so I called this mom to see how she was doing. Guess what?
Baby is now home and she is nursing him. Baby is very healthy too. When
mom finally got up to the hospital, she said her milk was just about gone.
The hospital staff gave that extra push---they told her that both she and the
baby needed to be nursing. Baby went right to the breast for the first time
with no problem. Mom's supply is back, and they are a happy nursing couple.

Aloha,
Gloria Thai
