We start with spoon, cups for the first 24 hours - sleepy baby has not eaten in 8 hours - low blood sugar - tongue thrusting etc
When there is a medical reason for longer supplementation - baby is jaundice, late per term not nursing well
Mom pumps and hand express every 2 hours and feed at least every 3 hours
We use a 12 cc feeding syringe and 5 Fr feeding tube and use "tube and the breast"
It is the same idea that Jack Newman shows except we use a syringe
Works very well to keep baby nursing and reassure the physicians and staff the baby has taken X amount in addition to breastfeedin. The minium is usually 1/2 ounce of EMM
