It really saddens me to see that there are daycares out there that are not
too supportive of breastfeeding and I think some do not want to learn at
all. (I was so lucky as mine was wonderful and I never had to worry at
all).

The first question to come to my mind was the type of bottles and nipples
the day care is using. Are they very different than Mom, as far as flow is
concerned? Maybe Mom needs to think about a more slow-flow bottle (if she
is not already doing so).

The second question refers to the part about being "hungry" and "crying
all the time". Could the baby be getting more foremilk (than hindmilk) in
these bottles than he does when he is nursing with Mom? That could happen
depending on the particular fat content in any particular bottle, or
depending on when Mom pumped that particular bottle.

As far as spitting up goes, I wonder if the day care people are propping
the baby up in a more upright position after he eats? I can't help but
believe that some of these observations may be directly related to the
actual experience of the particular day care provider, not to mention the
providers feelings about breastfeeding in general. I am always saddened by
how little "professionals" really know about breastfeeding. most ahve no
desire to learn, either. But that's another soap box for me!!

As one who does per-diem home visits to many moms in several communities,
I see a huge use (by physicians) of Zantac and simethicone drops for all
these babies with crabby tummies. This seems to be the quick fix cure when
often I think it is not the baby, but the mom and dad that need the extra
help. I mention this only because it sounds as if one or more of the day
care providers in this specific place are into this quick fix as well.

Is this baby very new to day care? The atmosphere at a busy happy day care
is not as quiet and subdued as it might be at home with Mom (even with
other young ones about).

These are my first thoughts. I look forward to seeing what everyone else
here thinks.
