(1) i continue to believe that what some describe as "high sucking needs" is
normal, and it is our response to normal, and our desire to create a more
compliant baby, and our unawareness of what the more compliant, "less
needful" baby is telling us, that creates problems.

(2) and how will the pacifier "fix" the problem of a baby who is a biter or
tongue-thruster?

(3 and 4) yes, and its this one-encounter expediency belief system (only
recommending "one" brand of pacifier, bottle, formula, etc., doing this type
of intervention immediately postpartum, using devices instead of techniques,
and so forth), that will continue to guarantee me a long, steady flow of
clients. too bad for them, though, when their milk supply and breastfeeding
relationships cannot be salvaged.

(5) trying "anything" that could help breastfeeding opens us up to new vistas
of breastfeeding support. forget evidence based, forget safety, what the
heck, if i had to simply go with the flow, it sure would save me a lot of
time wasted reading research, serious medical books, and all that other hoo
haa. try to think of the big picture; got cancer? gosh, that chemo is
supposed to be pretty unpleasant, try chocolate instead. surely intent will
give us a good outcome.

i myself don't think so.
