I thought some of you might enjoy this story, from my sister who has a
farm:
.
"To my sister the Lactation Consultant:

This is such a weird discovery. Did you know that, even after a pig is
dead, her milk continues to let down? Geo's prolapsed sow died, and I
found
him jumping up and down on her, trying to get her heart started. Then he

got the piglets, to try to get them to nurse. Not much luck. So I got
some
paper cups, and started trying to milk her, and it worked! I'd just get
a
couple of squirts, then go to another teat. By the time I'd get back to
the
first one (I was only milking 2-3 of them), it would be full of milk
again.
I'd repeat the process, and it would be full again, over and over. I got
a
fair amount of collostrum. Also, the piglets, who hadn't been even
willing
to try to nurse when held up to have milk squirted into their mouths,
seemed
to figure out that the milk was letting down, and started nursing away.
Not
exactly like on a live sow, but they do seem to have gotten enough
collostrum to survive. (One of Geo's more eccentric clients is bottle
feeding them. Ya know, I never really liked her before, but, now that IT
IS
NOT ME WITH A WHOLE LITTER OF PIGLETS TO NURSE, I suddenly discover that
I
like her a real lot!)
But isn't that wild? Talk about Nature making provisions."

Pretty amazing, isn't it?!
