Dear Friends:
I forgot to include the factory notion, and a belief in efficiency as
another factor in the mess we have today. Remember the books "Cheaper by the
Dozen" and its sequel? The parents of those 12 kids were time-motion experts
who made their money watching people work and figuring out ways to make that
work more efficient and productive.
Their work was used to make factories more efficient and that notion was
so popular that it contributed to the use of the factory model in hospitals
(where the product was moved from raw materials to the finished product.
Where the pregnant mother was moved along the assembly line, from admitting,
to labor ward, to DR, to recovery, and then to postpartum while baby went to
the nursery. ) The factory model was used in schools (that's where the bell
came from to signal a change of class) also.
This factory notion might work well with making automobiles, but it sure
doesn't help new mothers and babies or kids in schools!
     Warmly,
