I just received a call from a fellow WIC Nutritionist, who delivered her first
baby, yesterday afternoon. She is concerned that he is so sleepy, difficult to
rouse to feed. She is now a at home and trying again to wake and feed him. at
2:30 p.m. He last fed at 9:00 this morning. This is a very long time to me. She
mentioned that she was given morphine during her 36 hour long labor (to help her
rest better??!!!!) Baby has had 3 good size meconium stools since yesterday, and
2-3 wet diapers so far today. Would others be concerned with such long
stretches between feeds, given this stooling/wetting pattern . Assuming it is
the morphine making him sleepy how long till its effect wears off.

I will be visiting her tonight to oberve a feeding, but appreciate any
information.

TIA
