I got this email from a mom yesterday and went up this a.m. and saw her
and have her permission to post.

"I have tried a couple of times now to contact you by phone at work and
thought this might be the best way. I am looking on advise about
post-mastitis/yeast infection treatment. In Mid-March I ended up
getting
mastitis and to make a long story short, I am still having problems.
Despite 2 rounds of anti-biotics and two rounds of Diflucan, Lotromin,
Nystatin for Leo, pumping and probiotic treatments my breast still burns
and has a sore that won't heal (I never had white spots and no one has
bothered to examine me other than the ER doctor who gave me the wrong
antibiotic). Some days are worse than others. We are still nursing
despite an unpredictable milk supply."

Baby is 2 and a half months old, exclusively breastfed, mom has scabbed
area on left breast. She only got a loading dose of Diflucan, one 250
mg times one and no followup prescription. She doesn't think this is
yeast anyway. She is taking probiotics and grapefruit seed extract.
The scab will get some better and then get icky again. She has had
what she calls engorgement three times since the first round of
antibiotics, with a hard warm breast for two or three days.
She was on her way out of town today and is committed to fully
breastfeeding. I gave her the recipe for Dr. Jack's APNO and
encouraged lethicin over the weekend. I will see her on Tuesday and
see if anything has improved.
The latch is not great, we had fixed it when he was an infant but he
has slipped back into some tip feeding, hopefully we sorted that out a
bit today.

Any more ideas. We did talk about an ultrasound for abcess if things
continue to be so painful.
