Dear Julie and Sue - This is from memory, having seen the video several
years ago. What I remember is that the drug made a difference (I do not
think it matters which drug; the woman and the baby are drugged), but more
important was: If the mother and baby were separated, the baby was
disoriented and could not find the breast and did not latch on.

IMO, separation for even a few minutes can affect the behavior of the baby
and the mother. Farmers who have animals giving birth on their land can
attest to the fact that if you want to ensure the survival of the young, you
need to leave the mother and offspring together, and not disturb them for
quite a while.:-)

So instead of ABM in the hospital, we need more Do Not Disturb signs (i.e.,
messages) for the hospital staff. Or dare I suggest: More homebirths so
that the moms and babies are not all drugged up, and they are able to stay
together to behave normally.

Warm regards,

Lee
