When I was plagued with plugged ducts and recurrent mastitis for six
agonizing months (from the time my daughter was two months old until she
was eight months old) my very breastfeeding-friendly family physician
(we lived in Chicago then) finally threw up his hands and gave me the
home phone number of Mary White, one of the founders of LLL. She advised
me to try ice on the affected breast. I made it a habit of falling
asleep each night with an ice pack on the affected breast and I never
had a plugged duct or mastitis again. It's sure worth a try.
