Hi Listmates,
I am writing to elicit info on what you do with new pumps before dispensing
them to moms. Does anyone sterilize them? If you do is there a reason other
than the 'manufactor' recommends it? We haven't previously sterilized our
PumpNStyle tubing/bottles/flanges (etc) but recently we had a pt with a massive
mastitis (not from the pump) and the OB now wants us to sterilize all pumps
(and pacifiers) before use.

My thoughts are this is unnecessary, a gentle cleansing with soap and water are
suffiecient but I need back up.

Any references would also be helpful.

Thanks again,
Lucy Brey, WI
