Hi folks,
I was just reading the posts about using Monistat orally. I would not recommend
using the product in this way. Oral thrush can be effectively treated in
several ways. One is to use a homemade solution from pure nystatin powder
(available mailorder by prescription from Freeda Pharmacy in New York City).
Other ways are to use genetian violet or Orithrush (an over-the-counter
mouthwash sold in health food stores). A good resource for Information on
treating nipple thrush is a one-page handout from the League called "The Link
Between Infant Oral Thrush and Nipple and Breast Pain in Lactating Women." I'd
be happy to send a copy of it to anyone who sends me their address. My book, "A
Woman's Guide to Yeast Infections" covers these methods as well as ways to
prevent yeast overgrowth in the first place. Hope this is helpful.
