Nikki,

I have been an NCAST trainer since 2000 - and have found that doing a
feeding evaluation when breastfeeding issues are not clearly found gives me
a better handle on what ELSE is going on.

After doing the NCAST Feeding Interaction Scale and explaining my findings
with the mother additional information related to her own barriers to
parenting come out - things that she had not shared with me as a Lactation
Consultant - abuse, hidden epilepsy and eating disorders are three that come
to mind...

I really believe the NCAST evaluations make me a better LC - and in fact a
better grandmother! I LOVE doing the Teaching Interaction Scale and
encouraging young parents to learn how to better interact with their little
ones...

You can see much more from these Wise Women from their website:
http://www.ncast.org/ (And NO, I do not get any financial gain from
mentioning them - it's part of my job as a Public Health Nurse)
