In the average ped practice I think the NP needs to be an NP and the LC
needs to be dedicated to LC. I can't imagine taking an hour and working
with a mom, knowing there are 14 more patients waiting to see me before
noon!

I just read Pat's answer and I would like to say that it takes me 1.5 to 2
hours usually to do a full lactation consultation, from mom filling out the
initial paperwork and weighing the baby to feeding the baby to my filling
out the care plan for mom and the reciepts. Sometimes we are working for 2.5
hours if mom has a lot of questions or we add pumping to the mix and I am
teaching her how. Then I go home and spend another 30 minutes doing up a HCP
report and organizing the chart! Don't forget that follow up has to be done
later on and that is another 1/2 hour or more.
