For the purposes of the Lactational Amenorrhea Method of contraception, I
believe any vaginal bleeding occurring after at least 14 days of no bleeding
post partum is considered a menses.

Unless accompanied by severe pain, strongly unpleasant odor, fever, passing
large clots, or bleeding in such quantities as to arouse concern about
anemia or even shock, it requires no investigation after one episode.  If
the bleeding pattern over time causes the woman to doubt whether she is
well, she should seek appropriate help.  (And if the bleeding happens once
and then doesn't come back, she might want to consider the possibility of
pregnancy!)

Melisa, you are correct in saying it could be her period.  While unusual for
them to resume so soon while fully BF, it is not unlikely.  Menstruation is
the commonest cause of vaginal bleeding in premenopausal women.
