Dear all:

I'm wondering if many of you have had cases like the one I had.  The mom
had C-sections for both pregnancies.  She reported first pregnancy, that
her milk took a long time to come in and she had difficulty with supply.
She had no history of insulin resistence, had adequate breast tissues, had
no excessive bleeding, anemia, hypothyroidism.  2nd baby had lost ~10% &
was jaundiced.  She had severe edema in her legs, but not her breasts.  It
took her over four weeks of regular pumping to get up to full supply.  I
had been suggesting the breastfeeding medicine specialist check her out,
but she was afraid of meds.  Around four weeks she experienced a
significant jump in supply & her baby is now on breast milk only.  Her
pediatrician reminded her that this had happened the last time.  She also
said that the edema took that long to clear from her legs & she still has a
bit.

What would cause the edema to take so long to clear?
