I write with the hope that with our collective wisdom, we can help this
particular family in Kuala Lumpur.  An 18 month old boy was found
drowning in a fish pond.  Nobody knew how long he was in the pond- but
they managed to resuscitate him and he has been in coma for the past two
weeks.  He does not have the swallowing reflex, anymore. He could not
see. However, he is able to hear and has some locomotive movements.  The
question was posed to me by the boy's aunt who is a Breastfeeding
Mothers' Support Group Counsellor , working closely with me in
Singapore- "Will breastmilk help?  In what way will it help? Is it worth
the while for the boy's mom  to relactate and give him breastmilk?  He
is not able to swallow and so is being tube-fed in a K.L. private
hospital.
I have encouraged her to get her sister-in-law to induce lactation.
(It's been 10 months since she stopped breastfeeding). Another
relative's breastfeeding and we are also considering getting her to
donate her milk.
Do you have any other suggestions to stimulate the brain of the child
and get him on the road to recovery faster?
