I have seen this before and it was MRSA. Treated with proper medication and it clears.

I have encounted a case of antenatal bilateral mastitis, the mother is 36 weeks, her breasts became red and painful on the 22nd of Dec, As she had a chest infection the GP prescribed amoxicillan oral capsules hoping that it would clear both infections, This did nothing for the breasts! on the 5th Jan the midwife prescribed Flucloxicillan 250mg QID with no effect, on the 8th of Jan she was admitted to hospital with more breast discomfort, some severe throbbing over upper aspect of her left breast, the flucloxicillan was increased to 500mg QID. she states that there has been no change in her breasts. I met her today for the first time. She has never had a temperature! her breasts are very oedemitist, very heavy feeling, and hot to touch, in an endeavor to obtain some colostrum to check for a micro-organism, her pain increased substantially, despite my best efforts of not putting undue pressure on them. We abandoned that idea.I had done RPS prior. I have asked the Dr's to order a scan which they have done, no result as yet, I have also suggested that if it is an infection it may be strep and the may need to change the antibiotics, I am hoping that there is no other pathology going on, My question is has anyone encounter this situation, and is there anything else I can do apart from apply cold compresses etc. I have looked at Lawrence and laurence, they don't have much on A.N mastitis, and what they do have sounds quite nasty. Any suggestions please.
