Since I recently reconnected to Lactnet after several months off,
I will reintroduce myself. I am Pat Bucknell, an LC in private
practice in Avon Lake OH, about 20 miles west of Cleveland on
Lake Erie. I have been a LLLL for 24 years, still active, and
passed the IBCLE exam in '92. I also have a pump rental station
My husband Art & I are the parents of 6:boys 25, 23, almost 21 &
14, and girls amost 12 and 9 1/2. Everyone is still at home
except for the oldest.
My question is this. I have a mom due in September who took my
BF class at a local hospital. She has been taking phenobarbital
since the age of 12. She has been seizure free almost 3 years--
stress seems to play a large role, so she quit working and no
seizures. She takes 200 mg of the medication every night.
Briggs reports adverse effects in infants. The mom really wants
to nurse. Any alternatives for her? She says dilantin does not
work for her. Any and all info would be greatly appreciated.

Pat Bucknell
