Perhaps someone out there can answer this question that was asked of me
today by my very observant, hands-on physical therapist. If you have a
response, please indicate whether or not I may forward it to him.

This PT does lots of manual therapies and has noticed that when a woman is
pregnant, not only are joints looser (relaxin) but the integrity of her skin
and soft tissue are enhanced. He speaks of a true glow in pregnant women in
regards to skin integrity. He mentioned that a pregnant patient he treated
appeared to be in a horrible state but responded amazingly well to minimal
manual therapy, presumably due to hormonal influences on her systems. He
asked me today about the hormones involved here: after the baby is born and
her hormonal processes change, would lactation extend those hormonal states
described or do the postpartum hormonal changes necessarily send her back to
"normal" regardless of lactation status?

I could only make somewhat educated guesses. Anyone else care to comment?

Thanks,
Amy
