When I've heard this comment or one similar, it has most often been from
women who have sexual abuse issues or are from a families in which bodies
are kept "under wraps" or even considered "dirty". Often, trying to nurse
their babies is their first real experience in touching their breasts. Many
of them really want to do what is best for their baby, but have a difficult
time with the physical contact nursing involves. I've found some of these
women to be more comfortable with pumping than nursing.
Warmly,
Lorri C.
