I must say that I have found some OTs and PTs who have helped me alot in my
Lactation Practice. I know breastfeeding and they know jaw movement. When I
describe what I should be seeing they have helped me design an intervention
to get to the desired movement. Also there is a new way of approaching
parents with early intervention from a federal --Law 99 457 part H some may
know this as and early intervention program for babies at risk of or who
have disabilities. One of the goals is for the interventionist to ask what
the parent wants the child to learn or master. So the OT and PT will have
more practice in this concept. Also I wish to point out the dangers of these
pediatric conferences. I went to a PNP conference that had sessions I was
interested in with a friend who was a PNP. I who have been more in the public
area where there is no money and could not believe the dessert and after
dinner drink receptions where luscious desserts on several large tables,
crab, shrimp etc receptions, and breakfasts. It appeared in these
receptions that no expense was spared and sponsored by the formular companies
not to mention all the free stuff they pass out! and I who hated the formular
companies as a LLL leader for 6 years and at that time a lactation consultant
for 5 additional years as well as nursed 2 children until 3 and 4 years did
think for a second "Well these guys aren't so bad!" when I caught myself
"What are you thinking???" Imagine those who have no knowlege of
breastfeeding , how easily they could be swayed!!! Scarry.
