I believe there was a statistical analysis of impact of retaking exam vs cerps. and the decision was made to continue with exam, cerps, exam, cerps and so on. Possibly at that time, IBLCE didn't realize so many of us old people would hang on, LOL.  The most consistent factor I have heard is expense and limited income as we pass 65. (I'm keeping all the comments :-)  I would imagine that the impact in developing countries would be even greater on older IBCLCs.  Pat in SNJ
