I have noticed that breastfed babies' umbilical cords stay on longer.
Mothers are often told to clean the cord with alcohol with diaper changes. So moms end up cleaning it 10 times a day.
The more the cord is cleaned the longer it stays on. I was told by an allergist/immunologist who worked with the Navaho that they keep the cord very clean and it stays on a several weeks.
