I haven't posted for awhile, but I would definitely go
for the second opinion to see if the surgery was
absolutely essential at this time. I have 14 years
experience as a pediatric RN & cannot recall having
had a patient so young undergoing a tonsillectomy &
adenoidectomy. Are the tonsils obstructing the
toddler's airway?

Patients at our facility are instructed not to suck
from straws post-operatively. I can't recall for how
long a period afterward (I've been working in the
administrative arena for the last 18 mos.), but the
concern is the dislodgement of the clot afterwards.

I'm want to get some additional input on which course
to take before putting the child through this
procedure.

Sincerely,

Linda Madsen, CPN, IBCLC (due to recertify by exam
this year!)
