Hi Jenni
Just quickly,
What about 'Reverse Pressure Softening', see:
http://www.health-e-learning.com/breasted_web_articles/reverse_pressure/reve
rse_pressure.htm

and have you tried good old cabbage? Not usually my 1st port of call but
worth a try! Also I am aware some LC's use a homeopathic treatment called
phytolacca for reducing inflammation/oedema. Did a search on google and
didnt come up with much specifically with breasts/mastitis, however I did
find an abstract at 'MD Consult' that may have info:
Castro M - J Nurse Midwifery - 1999 May-Jun; 44(3): 280-90
Authors:
Castro M
Abstract:
The use of homeopathic remedies for the treatment of mastitis is described.
The basic principles of homeopathy are discussed, including the simillimum,
the minimum dose, the single remedy, the whole person, the vital force,
susceptibility, and constitutional treatment. Homeopathic research trials
and papers are examined and discussed. The author explains how homeopathy
can be incorporated into midwifery practice and applies this to the
treatment of mastitis. Specific indications in the application of 19
homeopathic remedies for mastitis, breast abscess, and lactation
difficulties (including problems with supply and painful nipples) are cited.
Keynote symptoms are presented in an easy access repertory. General
guidelines for potency and dosage protocol are given.

Could your hospital library track it down for you?
Dont know how free you are to try these 'off the track' remedys in you place
of employment? ;-)

Would be interesting to see if any lacnetters have any experience with
phytolacca cream and mastitis. I have never used it myself as i tend to stay
clear of things that i do not have any real knowledgeof.
Just some food for thought
Cheers, let us know the outcome!
