We need some guidance on a dietary issue that has come to our attention.
First, who's we? I have been a member of this list for many years and have
asked for assistance just a few times. Today I represent the LC's at
Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. There are 9 of us--part-time and
full-time.
Our situation: we have a mom with a 9 month old who is pumping because her
infant is extremely allergic to wheat/soy/and dairy --confirmed and mom cut
out corn/egg/onions/and seafood from her diet. She has two questions: 1.
How long does food stay in her system so she would know which foods caused
the problem with her baby? She also has a strong familial history of
allergies. 2. Should she breastfeed her 2nd baby or would a baby this
allergic need to eat hypoallergenic food because she is sensitized through
mother's breast milk. Mom is already on a restricted diet which is very
difficult to maintain--she is a MD. Any info your collected brains can
give us will be passed on to this very dedicated and frustrated mother and
add to our knowledge base? Thanks Maryann Stecyna Hernandez, RN, MS,
IBCLC
